Eztrends, Ez Trends, EZTRENDS, eztrends, EZtrends,

After downloading and trying to plot or load a flight in EzTrends, you get this message:

“Specified argument was out of the range of valid values, Parameter name; Year, Month, and Day parameters describe an unrepresentable DateTime.”

PLEASE UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE LATEST EZTRENDS.

Unplug the USB adapter from computer and then reconnect. When EzPlot displays a message like: “COM1* status: not open”; EzPlot is letting you know that nothing else is currently using this com port and this com port is currently not available for any data transfer, which means that you can use the specified comport. “Status Open” means is is currently being used by another device so please choose another comport.

Eztrends: Make sure you choose the correct COM number in the Port Name field of the ‘COM Port Detection and Selection’ window. Also make sure the adapter is the correct one JPI recommends.

Change the “Country and Language” setup on the Windows Systems configuration to
“English (USA)”. …. – all errors should be gone.

Change the “Country and Language” setup on the Windows Systems configuration to

Cust gets Eztrends message: “The “Format of the file ‘AxInterop.iPlotLibrary’. Is invalid.” while trying to plot one of his flights in the latest Eztrends – Version 2, Build 6. The downloaded version from your website is Version 1, Build 3373. XP laptop – fully updated.

No problem with data file with EzTrends 1.0.3371. If you have used Eztrends 2.0.6 before and then go back to 1.0.3371, it may cause the issue because 2.0.6 uses .NET framework 2.0 and 1.0.3371 uses .NET framework 1.1.

Please make sure you uninstalled EzTrends from Control Panel first, check the installation directory (usually “C:EzTrends”) to see if there are any interop files, if there are, delete the interop files, then go to internet to Microsoft Updates to update your Windows XP, restart your computer and then install EzTrends 1.0.3371.

This error message appears whether there are any data files in the data folder or not. The Gateway has never had EzTrends or any JPI software installed on it.

Update you Windows XP. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Windows Updates, select checking your system automatically and download, restart computer and run EzTrends to see what will happen.

[ WinXP issue ]

After saving the software, when you try to install it, the installation does not occur. Instead, you get the message: “Error 1327.Invalid Drive: h:”.

It might be caused by a computer that use to have a ‘H’ drive, and the drive name was deleted or changed later, so when Eztrends is installed , for some reason, EzTrends is looking for the ‘H’ drive for destination, but the system couldn’t find it.

Solution:
During EzTrends installation, in “destination” window, change H drive to C drive or other exsiting drive.

1. Run EzTrends and plot a .DAT or .JPI file.

2. Select one flight and Click “Load the flight”
button.

3. After it loads, click the “Export” button in the tool bar and save it to a .xls file to your desktop. Close or minimize Eztrends.

4. Doubleclick on the .xls file you just saved on your desktop. After this file opens, click ‘File’ on the toolbar. Choose ‘Save As…’

5. You will see the ‘Save As’ window pop up. Go to ‘File name:’ on the bottom of this window and rename the file. Now go to the ‘Save as type:’ and scroll to choose: “ CSV(MS-DOS)*.csv.” After doing these things, click ‘Save’.

6. A message will come up, just click the ‘Yes’ button.

7. You will now see that .xls file renamed to a .csv file. You will have to use Excel to see the data. Eztrends will not be able to open this .csv file. Only .csv files created by Ezsave can be opened by Eztrends.

The “Download and Archive Data from your EDM” button is clicked and the program freezes and won’t respond.

Windows XP w/ latest windows updates – Eztrends 2900– uninstall and reinstall Eztrends. Make sure you stay on-line while installing it. If this still does not work and Eztrends still ‘freezes’ is there some other program on the laptop that was recently uninstalled? In one example a customer had a program for BK Precision Power Supply was installed but is now removed. This program also uses Serial or Usb to connect for control, but again those have now been disconnected and the programs removed in an attempt to get EZTrends back working. Although the program for BK Precision Power Supply had been removed from his system, it is probably not very clean in the computers system registry. Try using Hyper Terminal to download data. It seems that the serial port stopped working and made EzTrends freeze.

Please try Hyper Terminal. If it doesn’t work, you might need to clean the registry, and update Window’s first. “How to use Hyper Terminal” is located on the jpitech.com web site under Technical Support – FAQ – Downloading.

While in Eztrends, click the “Option’ button. The ‘Main’ graph will switch to the ‘Option’ graph with all the Options installed. Do you see it here? If not, click ‘View’ and then ‘Config Option’, the “Option Configuration” page comes up displaying all EGT/CHT’s and ‘Additional Options’. You will see the Oil T and all other temp options. Are they ‘grayed’ out so you can not select it? The reason for this is that the EDM did not record this in its memory, because there is no Oil temp probe installed. ‘Step’ through all the temps on the EDM to locate Oil. It will not be there. Also you will notice other ‘options’ that the EDM may not have – for example RPM . You will notice it’s also ‘grayed’ out. No data has been recorded because there may be no RPM installed.

While in Eztrends, click ‘View’ and then ‘Config Option’, the “Option Configuration” page comes up displaying all EGT/CHT’s and Additional Options. You will see the CLD and DIF option are ‘greyed’ out – you can not select it. The reason for this is that the EDM did not record this in its memory. If you notice other options that the EDM does not have – for example RPM. If the RPM feature is not installed, you will notice it also ‘greyed’ out. No data has been recorded because there is no RPM. His CLD and DIF may appear on the EDM’s display but it has not been recorded in memory.

‘TRENDS’ report and ‘TRENDS’ chart dialog box that explain “an unhandled s=exception has occurred in your application…..Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

This run time error might be caused by data. Please check if every flight has the same data names. If there are different data names, (select the flights he did data trends, plot them and look at the spreadsheet.) It might have corrupted the program. Can try uninstalling Eztrends and reinstalling – make sure he stays on-line while installing it.

NO. EzTrends can not work for a 64 bit Operating System. Must be a 32 bit Operating system – XP or Vista.

Dumping “ALL” data – saving the file: received the error message: “Length cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: Length”.

If you subsequently try to open the data using EzTrends, the flights all show up as “BAD Flt” again with the”Length less than zero” error. The start of the download is misplaced.

Make sure you are using the latest ‘build’ of Eztrends software. Lastest ‘build’ is now 3005. Check you Eztrends build number. If older, then uninstall it first and then reinstall the latest. Stay on-line while installing it. This is important. [ http://jpitech.com/softwaredownload.php4 ]

Make sure you are using the latest Eztrends. Also make sure the correct COM number used by your cable is also used in the ‘Port Name’ field of Eztrends ‘COM Port Detection and Selection’ window. Make sure the EDM itself is ‘counting down’. Do not use Belkin, Dynex or IOGear USB serial adapter cables. If all is correct as above, then proceed by checking the download port and serial cable.

To check center pin on download jack: Should have around a -7 to -9 volts. You can plug in the black PC serial cable and check this. Pin# 2 is signal and pin# 5 ground. Put paper clips in these two pins for your digital voltmeter. Now get the EDM to DUMP ALL and tap the Step button. You should see this neg voltage(-7 to -9) go toward the more positive side – even a positive number. It should fluctuate. This will show that the jack and PC serial cable are good. The issue now is with the USB adapter cable(if not one of the above mentioned) or the computer.

Make sure the Build number of Eztrends being used is above 3000.

IF USING THE LATEST BUILD OF EZTRENDS.(3000 and above.) Missing the tail number at the beginning of downloading. Try again. This time wait for a longer time – around four(4) seconds – before pushing the “STEP ” button on the EDM after clicking the ‘START’ button in Eztrends.

Open the downloaded data file in Notepad. If the data is completely cryptic, then there is a baud rate problem. For older EDM’s the “FAST” feature under ‘DUMP’ in the PROGRAM mode is set to “FAST? N”, change to “FAST? Y” (applies to the EDM-700, 800, & older 760’s). This only applies to the older models of EDMs. All newer models have the baud rate set 19200 by default. Also make sure your using the latest Eztrends software.(Build number above 3000.)

To Check for this FAST feature:

1. Go to pilot program mode (Hold both buttons to see PROGRAM).
2. Tap STEP until you see DUMP? N.
3. Hold both buttons until you see RECORD TIME 6.
4. Tap STEP until you see FAST? N. Tap LF to change N to Y.
5. Tap STEP until you see END Y. Tap STEP to exit.

**If you do not see FAST, then the EDM is set at 19,200. You’re OK.

Upgrade to the latest EZplot 7.8.20 if using Windows 98, or the newest EZtrends.

If new 700 – latest Eztrends(Build number above 3000) and using serial cable – check cable continuity – wiggle at computer port area or check data port. If using a USB adpater cable – must not be a Belkin, Dynex or Iogear. JPI recommends a Keyspan USB serial adapter. (p/n USA-19 HS)

EDM-700/800 Downloaded data in Eztrends showing flight duration longer than reality.

Ex: flight was really only 6 hrs, but Eztrends showing same flight 8 hrs. Plot the flight and look at bottom of graph – do you see ‘yellow marks’? These are snap marks done when the pilot enters into the leaning mode. When in leaning mode the record rate is now one(1) second NOT six(6). But Eztrends still records that one second as six!! So if he is in lean mode for a few minutes, each second is displayed as if 6 seconds – this can add up to a lot of time.

** If you do not see the yellow marks on any of you flights, then uninstall your version of Eztrends and install the latest. Remain on-line while you install it.

Go to: http://jpitech.com/softwaredownload.php4

If you get an “Invalid Header File” error message, proceed as below:

First make sure you are using the latest release or ‘build’ of Eztrends software. If not, first uninstall the version you have on your laptop first, and then please go to http://jpitech.com/softwaredownload.php and download the latest. Remember to stay on-line while you’re installing it. This is important.

After doing the above, then proceed to steps 1 thru 3 below:

#1) If the EDM is over four (4) years old, change the ‘FAST’ setting under the DUMP field in PROGRAM mode to ‘FAST? Y’. This will change the EDM’s baud rate to 19,200. If FAST is not found in the Date/Time and N number list under DUMP, then the EDM is already set to 19,200.

#2) If you are using the black PC serial cable only, make sure the ‘Bits per Second’ rate on COM1 is also set to 19,200. You will need to go to Device Manager and double click on Ports (COM and LPT). To do this, right click the ‘My Computer’ icon on your desk top or click ‘Start’ on the lower left of you computer screen and then locate “My Computer” in the list. Right click this. You will see an option window pop up. Left click “Properties”, and the ‘System Properties’ window will come up. Click the ‘Hardware’ tap and choose ‘Device Manager’. In the Device Manager list look for ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’. Double click on this and you will then see ‘Communications Port (COM1)’ listed. Double click this and you will see the ‘Communications Port (COM1) Properties’ window pop up. Click the ‘Port Settings’ tab. You will need to change the ‘Bits per Second’ rate from 9600 to 19,200. All the other fields on that Port Settings page just leave as is. Click the ‘OK’ button and then just close out of Device Manager completely.

If you are using a Radio Shack USB serial adapter cable, or any other brand of USB serial adapter* along with the black PC serial cable, you will have to do the above procedure to change the ‘Bits per Second’ rate of the COM that USB cable is using. Make sure it’s 19,200. (If you see that the rate is set at a higher value, that is OK.) **Attn: If you do not see this USB adapter listed in the Ports (COM & LPT) list, then you have not installed that cables driver. You will need to do this first.

When installing the new Eztrends version 2.0.1 to a XP computer you receive an “abnormal termination error” message.
