ADDING OIL PRESSURE TO AN EXISTING EDM-700/800

August 17, 2012 by Craig Peyton

To add Oil Pressure to your existing EDM-700 or 800, you must have these two things:

#1) The 9-pin middle connector on the back of the EDM between the top and bottom 25 pin connectors.
#2) The EDM must also have updated software that has ‘OIL P? N’ in the FAC LIM list. Even if your EDM does have this middle connector, please follow the five steps below to see if your EDM has the upgraded software. (If you do not see ‘OIL P? N’ in the Factory Limits list, then the EDM will need to come into JPI for an Oil Pressure software upgrade.)
If you need to add wire for Oil pressure to an already installed RPM/MP harness on the EDM-700/800, you will need to pin the black and white wires that come with the Oil Pressure sensor (p/n #306018) to the middle EDM 9-pin connector – pins#6 and #7. [Designated P3 in the EDM install manual Rpt #103. In this manual pins 6 & 7 of the P3 connector are labeled ‘SPARE’.] This DB-9 black connector opens like a clam shell and you will pin it:
White wire – pin# 6
Black wire – pin# 7
After installing the Oil pressure sensor, you will need to go into FAC LIM of the EDM to change ‘OIL P? N’ to ‘Y’ for yes. To do this, follow the five steps below:
1) Turn on EDM. After the self test, tap the ‘Step’ button to get past the ‘FILL? N” prompt. (If your EDM has fuel flow.)
2) Now press both buttons down for until you see ‘PROGRAM’ and then take your fingers off.
3) Now you will see ‘FUEL? N’. (If your EDM has fuel flow, otherwise you will see ‘RATE’) Tap the ‘Step’ button until you see ‘END Y’. Now hold both buttons down again until you see ‘FAC LIM’. Then take your fingers off.
4) Now you will see ‘FAC? N’. Now tap the ‘Step’ button until you see ‘OIL P? N’. Now tap the LF button on the left to change the ‘N’ to a ‘Y’.
5) Now tap the ‘Step’ button until you see ‘END Y’. Now tap the ‘Step’ button one more time to get out of FAC LIM mode completely. You can now power off the EDM.
Mount the Oil pressure sensor using an aluminum clamp MS21919. (Not included.) Mount to firewall. Mount the pressure sensor to the pressure line using a flexible hose and fittings. Do not mount sensor directly to the engine. Connect the other end of the hose to the engine manufactures recommended location for engine oil pressure.
After install, you will see ‘O – P’ on digital part of display.
