    Fuel Flow

  • Sometimes fills 75 gallons and sometimes 65 (tab). How can he have both?
  • Set the main tank to 65 and the Aux tank to 10. Then at startup will be asked about both.

  • Can fuel flow be installed on a 7, 8, or 9 cylinder
  • Yes: the transducer is $1200 for high flow plus $695 for the electronic module.

  • How should I install the transducer?
  • Make sure the transducer is Horizontal with the three wires up. Failure to do this will result in premature failure.

  • What fittings should I use on the transducer?
  • Since the transducer body is aluminum, you must use steel fittings onthe transducer (supplied) and use 15 ft/lbs torque max.

  • Where does the Transducer get it’s power.
  • The Power, which is 12 volts regulated, is supplied by the EDM.

  • Low fuel flow reading sare 50% of what they should be.
  • The transducer is marked IN and OUT. Make sure this is correct. Also check the K factor engraved on the side of the transducer.

  • Inaccurate fuel flow reading.
  • 90 degree fittings within 3" of the inlet side not present. Cavitation in the fuel will result in inaccurate readings.

  • Consistently high fuel flow readings?
  • The next time the aircraft is flown in cruise, turn on the boost pump for one minute. If the fuel flow drops, this is an indication that air is leaking into the fuel line upstream of the transducer. It is possible that air is leaking into the system through the selector valve or other connection. Fuel stain may not be visible.

  • Do I need shielded wire?
  • No. The JPI electrical system is not noise sensitive like the Shadin system.

  • Does Beech Bonanza need a fuel flow transducer?
  • The following do NOT need a transducer because a digital xducer is already installed:

    F33A serial numbers >= CE-919,

    F33C >= CU-156,

    V35B >= D-10354,

    A36 >= E-1766,

    A36TC >= EA-159,

    B36TC all.

  • When doesn't the fuel flow option require a JPI-supplied transducer?
  • When they already have a digital transducer.

  • How do you reset the fuel USD to zero on the fuel flow option?
  • Accumulate mode should be OFF. For Old units: every time engine is restarted. For new units: every time fuel is added/removed. Manually step to USD and hold both buttons for 5 seconds. Works regardless of accumulate mode on or off.

  • Can fuel flow be added to the data recording options,
  • No, only the EDM-700 basic.

    Package A or B?

  • Fuel flow readings are erratic on carbureted engine.
  • In the "Factory Limits" index set to CARB N and set to Y?

  • Fuel actually used is much higher than EDM.
  • EDM may have the K factor to low. The correct factor is around 29.9 for JPI and 84.00 (Hoskins and Shadin)

  • Fuel flow is reading too high by about 10-30%
  • Check for air entering system at selector valve (change o-ring) or elsewhere. Must have at least 8" of straight tubing going into transducer, no right angle bends closer than that.

  • Fuel flow doesn’t work
  • Check EGT-ALL-FF switch setting (and connections). Call for fuel tester.
